Construction Manager (Buildings)

Position Overview
The Construction Manager for our Buildings division leads the planning, coordination, and execution of projects from start to finish. They set the tone in the field and in the office — ensuring every project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the quality Jacob Bros is known for.
They represent the Jacob Bros brand in how they lead, communicate, and build — accountable for results, trusted by clients, and respected by crews. This role carries full responsibility for the operational and financial health of each project, balancing production, cost, and quality to achieve success.


Responsibilities and Primary Tasks
 
  • Develop and execute project schedules, work plans, and logistics to keep projects on track.
  • Anticipate challenges and make real-time decisions to maintain momentum.
  • Collaborate with the Workforce Manager and VP of Assets and Workforce to plan manpower, crew assignments, and support resources to meet project demands.

Budget and Cost Control:
  • Work with your project team to establish budgets, confirm scopes, and track progress throughout the job.
  • Manage subcontracts, monitor costs, and stay ahead of potential overruns.
  • Identify and resolve scope changes quickly and fairly, with input from your team.
  • Take ownership of the project’s overall financial health — ensuring productivity, cost control, and results align with expectations from start to finish.

Subcontractor Management:
  • Select and manage subcontractors and suppliers with clear expectations for safety, schedule, and quality.
  • Build strong working relationships through communication, coordination, and accountability.
  • Ensure subcontractors are aligned with the project plan and our field teams.

Coordination:
  • Partner with Superintendents to oversee day-to-day site operations.
  • Coordinate with the Workforce Manager and VP of Assets and Workforce to align crews and equipment across multiple projects.
  • Lead coordination meetings and drive accountability across all team members.
  • Maintain clear communication between the field, project team, and client.

Client Communication:
  • Act as the main point of contact for owners, consultants, and key partners.
  • Provide consistent progress updates and ensure issues are resolved proactively.
  • Represent Jacob Bros with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

Safety and Quality:
  • Set the standard for safety on site — lead by example, not by policy.
  • Ensure all work meets design intent, code requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Promote a culture of care, pride, and craftsmanship across every project.

Project Closeout:
  • Drive final completion, including punch lists, testing, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Ensure the finished product meets Jacob Bros’ standards and the client’s expectations
Reporting Relationships: The Construction Manager reports to the Vice President of Operations



Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of construction management experience with a general contractor.
  • Strong knowledge of civil or building construction methods, sequencing, and site logistics.
  • Proven track record of leading field teams and subcontractors to successful outcomes.
  • Solid understanding of budgets, scheduling, and change management.
  • Proficiency with construction tools and software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, Primavera).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills — clear, direct, and solution-focused.
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent field experience.
 

Work Environment
This is a hands-on leadership role. The Construction Manager splits time between the site and the office, often working outdoors in varying conditions. The role demands presence, collaboration, and active engagement with crews, the Workforce Manager, and the VP of Assets and Workforce to ensure alignment, consistency, and delivery across all projects.
