Position Overview The Buildings Superintendent leads, directs and coordinates the work of field staff and subcontractors. This site leadership position is responsible for overall Safety, Quality, schedule, cost performance and team development for institutional, commercial, industrial and high-end residential projects.
Responsibilities and Primary Tasks
Provides safety leadership through implementation of the Jacob Bros Safety Program, monitors the safety performance of field staff and subcontractors and collaborates with Project Manager to maintain all safety documentation
Leverages expert knowledge of construction and building techniques to train, supervise and mentor craft personnel
Supervises construction workforce and oversees all on-site construction activities to construct the project effectively, safely and within budget
Develops and maintains open communication with crews, trades, project team and clients to ensure project performance, safety and quality requirements are in compliance
Prepares work plans and scheduling to determine manpower levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements
Monitors and executes the project construction plan; develops and implements job schedules and three week look ahead schedules
Leads effective site meetings with craft, trades, project teams and client
Examines field conditions, corrects inaccuracies and implements cost saving measures
Understands project scope and applies engineering principles to troubleshoot and resolve challenges
Maintains project administration correspondence, complies with all project documentation requirements including field reports, schedule updates, safety inspections, etc.
Develops strong relationships with all project stakeholders
Performs other duties as required
Reporting Relationships The Buildings Superintendent reports to the Project Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 7 years of supervisory experience as an ICI Superintendent on institutional, commercial, industrial and high-end residential projects
Three (3) additional years of experience as a Foreman, Lead Hand or Field Engineer preferred
Demonstrated expert understanding of construction industry and business operations, including cost management processes and reports, construction specifications and methods, contract language, and project planning and schedules
Strong knowledge of safety and environmental procedures and legislation
Working knowledge of computers and experience using Microsoft Office Suite or internal project controls software and scheduling software
Ability to work a varied schedule, including night shifts as required
Legally entitled to work for any employer in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
Trade background and/or Gold Seal Certification considered an asset
Work Environment The Buildings Superintendent works on commercial construction sites, outdoors and in site offices, in varying weather conditions including inclement weather.
