Position Overview Reporting to the Controller, the Project Accountant will coordinate with multiple project stakeholders and owners to oversee the financial performance of Jacob Bros projects, ensuring all project accounting requirements are complete in accordance both with contracts and with company policy and procedure.
Responsibilities and Primary Tasks
Processes subcontracts and monitors project progress and costs; investigates, reports and accurately explains variances
Processes subcontractor Accounts Payables, updates tracking reports, sets up commitments and obtains WCB clearance letters
Maintains and updates cost codes and job records
Processes job costing and reporting; sends job cost reports to Project Managers, revenue accruals, change orders, budgets and profit analysis
Prepare and submit billings on a time and material basis
Processes invoices, invoice payments and holdback releases
Prepares project cash flow and cost projections
Prepares monthly progress draws/invoices and related collections
Maintains integrity of the general ledger for construction projects, reconciles YTD and JTD WIP to GL
Follows all month end close activities to meet deadlines
Assists with preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and KPIs
Forms strong, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, liaise with project teams, vendors and other employees as required
Demonstrates strong communication skills with all project stakeholders and seeks guidance as required
Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork to supports support finance team in meeting team deliverables
Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned by Manager

Reporting Relationships The Project Accountant reports directly to the Controller.
Minimum Qualifications
Accounting diploma and/or university education in finance
1-3 plus years experience in project accounting field is strongly preferred
Completion or in pursuit of professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred
Solid computer skills – Timberline/Sage 300 CRE, SAP, Excel (and other MS Office)
Advanced Excel proficiency
Proven track record of high attention to detail
Demonstrates basic understanding of accounting and job costing principles
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks, likely with competing priorities
Strong track record of meeting deadlines within a fast-paced environment
Strong communications skills and expert command of the English language both written and verbal
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute effectively and positively within a team environment
Ability to work independently in high volume environment to meet tight deadlines
Must be legally eligible to work for any employer in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
Completion or in pursuit of professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred
Experience in the construction or engineering industries is a strong asset
Experience with percentage of completion accounting.
Experience with Procore timesheets is an asset
Work Environment The Project Accountant works out of the corporate head office in Surrey, BC.
